Karting for a Cause
Karting for a Cause – Milford Youth Matters
Darth Marty Media was commissioned to photograph Karting for a Cause, a fantastic fundraising day in support of Milford Youth Matters, bringing together motorsport, classic cars, live music and plenty of people for a brilliant local cause.
The karting naturally provided some of the most energetic photographs of the day, but there was far more happening than just the racing. An impressive collection of classic cars offered something completely different to photograph, while live music, spectators, volunteers and all the activity surrounding the event meant there were stories happening everywhere I looked.
As ever, I worked predominantly in a candid, documentary style, looking beyond the obvious photographs. Alongside the action on track, I wanted the collection to capture the people who made the day what it was – the concentration and competition, conversations around the cars, musicians performing, reactions from the crowd, laughter between friends and all those little unscripted moments that give an event its personality.
The racing also gave me an opportunity to experiment with slower shutter speeds, panning and different angles to create photographs that conveyed movement rather than simply freezing it.
The resulting collection became a record of much more than a karting competition. It captured a proper community fundraising day – classic cars, live music, racing, people and atmosphere, all brought together to raise money for Milford Youth Matters.
